Smart Irrigation Month

The Irrigation Association has declared July – Smart Irrigation Month. “Why?” you might ask. Well, July is the month when watering lawns, gardens and landscapes is in peak demand. The purpose of this initiative, is to increase public awareness about the value of water use and the simple practices and newer technologies homeowners, businesses and property managers can use to save money on their utility bills and protect their community water supply for generations to come.

Most homeowners and businesses typically over water by up to 30%. How many times have you been out and about in the rain and saw a sprinkler system applying water? Did you know if you water during the heat of the day, you are actually wasting water from evaporation, and potentially putting a lawn at higher risk for disease.

Maintenance and inspections of your irrigation system is critical. Even though you may have had your system turned on in April, it does not mean there may not be a problem now. Like your car, things can happen. You may have done a tune up on your car and two weeks later a belt breaks. The same goes for your sprinkler system. Is your rain sensor still functioning properly? Periodic check ups are crucial for an efficient sprinkler system.

By selecting and planting carefully, watering wisely, and most of all, maintaining and upgrading automated sprinkler systems, consumers can save money, save water and see better results.
